SterlcraftNews and information regarding Sterlcraft, a small Minecraft server.Seth Pricesmp@ssterling.nethttps://www.ssterling.net/about/Copyright 2018–2022 Seth Price/favicon.ico/images/sterlcraft/fox-square.png2023-07-13T13:45:10-04:00lol I did this all by hand; props for reading the sourceBedrock Edition port changedGeyser proxy is now on port 17591Bedrock Edition players will have to update their server entries to connect to port 17591; the address itself is the same.2023-07-13T13:45:10-04:00Replaced LWCX with BoltMinimal changes from end-user perspectiveLWCX—the door locking plugin—has been replaced with Bolt, a more efficient and practical alternative. The database has been migrated; your locks are preserved. The ‘/lock’ and ‘/unlock’ commands work just the same, as well, though some other commands might have changed; type ‘/help lock’ for more info.2023-06-12T14:17:43-04:00Update to 1.20World not regeneratedPlayers must now use 1.19 to connect. The world was not reset; new generation will occur outside generated chunks.2023-06-12T13:00:04-04:00Added TrainCartsMinecarts now link upThe TrainCarts plugin has been added. The only feature actually enabled is the ability to link up minecarts and power them with furnace minecarts. Simply push one minecart into another, and they will connect.2023-02-14T11:15:31-05:00Change to IP address and portMCProHosting datacenter moveThe server was transferred to a new MCProHosting datacenter in New York. The Geyser proxy (Bedrock) port has changed to 15361; Java Edition players should notice no difference using mc.ssterling.net. The backup Geyser proxy on peridot.ssterling.net is unaffected.2022-11-30T12:03:15-05:00Rules updateSome rules removed; wording simplifiedStrange wording has been simplified and some superflous points removed to make the rules easier to read and comprehend.2022-06-23T10:13:54-04:00Update to 1.19World not regeneratedPlayers must now use 1.19 to connect. The world was not reset; new generation will occur outside generated chunks.2022-06-12T11:22:24-04:00Update to 1.18World regenerated; player inventory and Ender Chest keptPlayers must now use 1.18 to connect. The world was reset, though players will have kept the contents of their inventory, armour slots and Ender Chest. However, due to some behind-the-scenes scuffedness from having pulled off the inventory keep, users will likely log in to a random place and suffocate and/or fall; neither inventory nor experience will be lost before 12 December, and users will respawn at the world spawnpoint. Details will be hashed out in the Discord server (see Sterlcraft homepage for link).2021-12-01T21:23:07-05:00Set death spawnpoint to bedPlayers will return to their home upon deathPlayers will, upon death, return to their bed instead of global Spawn; this more closely mimics actual Vanilla behaviour. (Global spawn on death is default for EssentialsX.)2021-07-12T16:03:07-04:00Update to 1.17Updated server version to 1.17; no other changesPlayers must now use 1.17 to connect. No world regeneration has taken place; any 1.17-exclusive blocks are likely rather far from Spawn.2021-07-04T13:15:02-04:00A fresh start, sort-ofReset overworld and moved to better hostThe overworld has been reset, the server updated to 1.16.5, and all data moved to MCProHosting, all at the request of the playerbase. Additionally, since the players on my other server, GummyCraft, wanted this as well, I essentially merged the two into one to save time and money. The server is still accessible via the usual address(es).2021-05-26T19:11:04-04:00Added Derpcraft world to serverOld backup from 2015 now available to exploreI’d recently discovered a backup of Derpcraft as it existed in July 2015 on three CDs. The world is now available to explore by accessing Sterlcraft and typing “/derpcraft”.2020-04-09T04:11:42-04:00Relocated Dickbutt sculptureDickbutt is now slightly further away from SpawnTo avoid leaving a distracting and longing impression on new players, Dickbutt and Succ have been moved to about (160,340).2020-03-22T13:41:30-04:00Changed “Player” rank to “Newcomer”Hopefully less confusion amongst new playersThe “Player” rank has been changed to “Newcomers” to hopefully avoid new players being confused as to why they aren’t yet Members. Changes are reflected accordingly in all documentation.2020-03-17T21:28:04-04:00Disabled pixel art and sandbox worldsPerformance will improve without use of Multiverse pluginNobody uses the pixel art or sandbox worlds, so they've been disabled till further notice. This frees up a lot of server resources as a side result. The data and hard work is still there, but not accessible.2019-12-18T20:01:37-05:00Upgraded to 1.15.1Finally, beesThe server's been bumped up to version 1.15.1; nothing should really be different as of now. I'll get around to adding beehives around already-generated areas somewhat soon.2019-12-17T21:03:55-05:00Found some neat screencapsRecently re-discovered old screencaps of the "third-and-a-halfth incarnation"I'm not sure from where these screencaps came; it seems slightly different from the third incarnation proper as described on the History page.2019-11-30T22:57:11-05:00Upgraded to 1.14.4New version, little changeThe server's been bumped up to version 1.14.4, though not much will change.2019-09-09T12:44:12-04:00Replacing Lockette with LWCLockettePro is outdated and will be replacedLockettePro doesn't work any more with new signs. Plus, it's been ugly the whole time. I don't know why I didn't know about LWC till just recently. All chests will be manually converted by yours truly—or so I hope. Contact me if something goes wrong.2019-07-18T23:56:49-04:001.14.3 upgrade completeUpgrade is finished; server is upThat took less time than I thought it would. Anyway, the server is up at the usual address.2019-06-24T14:19:39-04:00Undergoing upgrade to 1.14.3Server will be down for a few days for a complex upgradeI'm gonna upgrade the server to 1.14.3 over the course of the next few days or so, so the server will be down. Most of this effort is going to involve regenerating the oceans so they have kelp, seagrass and whatnot. I'm making two full backups (minus Dynmap), so there's next-to-no risk of everything disappearing this time.2019-06-22T18:57:34-04:00Back onlineSterlcraft is back: mc.ssterling.netI guess the tenth anniversary of Minecraft got some people playing it again and now my friends and the former player-base are interested. Everything still runs 1.12.2 and all; still connect via mc.ssterling.net.2019-05-13T07:22:19-04:00Offline till further noticeLack of players, server offlineThe server has been practically devoid of activity the past month or so. To save costs of electricity, the server will be completely offline till interest piques or for some other reason.2018-12-02T07:00:03-05:00Updated to new addressmc.ssterling.netWas plum tired of IP issues and weird ports2018-07-17T21:36:00-04:00Slight permissions changeRevoke Creative permissions from Member classMost of the staff thought this was OP and that the /sell command could be abused amongst other things. Not to mention, no Member players were using Creative regularly to begin with.2018-07-13T02:52:00-04:00New permissionsRevamped permissions system and added new ranksTrusted rank was overpowered; of course, I trust everyone per se with said rank, but I don't want them having access to kicking and all. And those whom I want to have access shouldn't be an Admin, necessarily. 2018-07-08T18:51:00-04:00Installed SilkSpawnersInstalled/configured new plugin SilkSpawnersPlayer 'miotas' mined a spawner with silk touch, only to be disappointed it didn't pop into his inventory. He came to me with a complaint, both of us under the impression it was vanilla behaviour. Welp, it's not; this plugin is what causes spawners to be mine-able on most servers. And so goes the story of why I installed it.2018-07-07T02:57:00-04:00Down for maintenanceRe-installing server computer OSI run Sterlcraft on a re-purposed desktop tower which I also use for my web server and a few other things, one of which is emulation and virtualisation. Well, QEMU on UFS is a complete wreck, and I used the entire 4TB disk as one FreeBSD partition, so I had no way of making another filesystem or partition or anything. Ends up I'm literally re-installing my whole system. Estimated downtime: four hours.2018-06-18T13:19:00-04:00Re-branding as SterlcraftBeginning of trackingThe official point at which I changed everything from ‘Seth's Server’ to ‘Sterlcraft’. The server's garnered quite a few followers, so I thought “why not?”. There's even a Discord server; check the homepage for info.2018-06-09
